Calgary Community Mourns After Missing 11-Year-Old Boy Parker Wells Presumed Dead

CALGARY, Alberta — A heartbreaking search for 11-year-old Parker Wells, an autistic Calgary boy who went missing from the Thorncliffe community, has ended in tragedy after authorities announced he is presumed dead following an extensive four-day search.

Parker’s disappearance prompted a massive response from law enforcement, volunteers, and community members across Calgary, with hundreds of people joining efforts to locate the young boy and bring him home safely.

Calgary police said Parker was last believed to have been seen in the Thorncliffe area between approximately 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday. Investigators launched an urgent search after he was reported missing, describing him as a vulnerable child who required special consideration because he was non-verbal and autistic.

Authorities said Parker could become frightened when approached by strangers, and officers used methods designed to help comfort him during the search, including playing Disney music from police cruisers in hopes of attracting his attention.

Parker was described as approximately 4 feet 11 inches tall (150 cm) and weighing about 90 pounds (41 kg), with brown hair and brown eyes. Police believed he may have been wearing grey shorts, black Skechers shoes, and black noise-cancelling headphones, and may have been without a shirt.

During the investigation, clothing believed to belong to Parker was discovered in the 0–100 block of Northmount Drive N.W., intensifying the search efforts.

A Citywide Search Effort

Calgary police Acting Staff Sgt. Scott Guterson said the entire city was asked to help search for Parker. Residents were urged to check their properties, including yards, sheds, garages, unlocked vehicles, RVs, hot tubs, and pools because Parker was known to have an interest in water.

More than 200 officers were involved in the search, with additional resources continuing to join the effort as authorities worked around the clock to find him.

Police previously stated there was no indication that foul play was involved and believed Parker may have wandered away on his own.

Family Shares Heartbreaking Message

As the search continued, Parker’s family shared a statement asking the community to continue looking for their son.

“Parker is a loved son, brother and friend. Our family is heartbroken by his disappearance.”

The family described the days following his disappearance as an unimaginable experience for any parent.

“Since he went missing, our family has been living every parent’s worst nightmare. Every hour that passes without knowing where he is or whether he is safe has been incredibly difficult for us.”

They also reminded the public that Parker experiences the world differently and may not respond when his name is called.

The family asked anyone who encountered him not to approach him but instead give him space and immediately contact police with his location.
